ABOUT US

The Milton Keynes Equality Council (MKEC) is an independent voluntary organisation and a registered charity. (Formerly known as the Milton Keynes, Racial Equality Council since 1987 till 8th May 2008 wnhen a resolution was passed at a full council meeting with a majority vote to change it's name to Milton Keynes Equality Council).

MKEC’s aims are to:

- to work towards the elimination of racial discrimination;
- to promote equality of opportunity and combat discrimination and hate covering the six strands of equality and diversity i.e. Race, Gender, Disability, Age, Sexual Orientation, Religion and Belief; expecially in Milton Keynes and the surrounding area;
- to promote equality of opportunity for people who are subject to or who experience discrimination on any other grounds;
- support victims of hate crime and harassment through complainant aid and casework.
- eradicate racial discrimination through partnership with public, private and voluntary sector through seminars, training and workshops, sharing information and best practice
- to provide taylor made training in Race Equality/Culture and Faith Awareness/Diversity/Impact Assessment.

What services we offer:

- We maintain an appropriate programme of public information and public education related to matters within the six strands of diversity.
- We campaign to change and give advice on race equality policies within a variety of organisations
- We advise individuals on equality law in matters of employment, education and harassment
- We work towards increasing public awareness of hate crime and prejudice
- We monitor hate crime incidents throughout Milton Keynes
